About this Event

THE KUNDALINI YOGA & SEVA RETREAT:

Sept 8-14, 2019

Imagine an adventure of a lifetime, flying halfway around the globe to the intense beauty of Africa. Then imagine you are able to spend a week with the most vibrant, radiant and whole children you have ever met. Finally, imagine you have a guide who is sharing the teachings of Kundalini Yoga with you and these children every day! This is the Kundalini Yoga and Seva Retreat you will be taking to the Nambale Magnet School in Kenya.

With Anne Novak's incredible compassion and powerful teaching, you will journey through this transformational week of yoga and service. During our week together, we will rise early to open space with morning sadhana and chanting. We will have the opportunity to spend time serving with the kids, sharing Kundalini Yoga and having fun with them, doing some of the things they like to do, like soccer, dancing, and singing. We will also share healthy food and African tradition!

The retreat will be held on the Nambale School property in their guest house. All rooms are double rooms, with 2 people. Your tuition includes food and housing. All meals will have healthy, clean, vegetarian options.

ABOUT NAMBALE MAGNET SCHOOL:

Nambale Magnet School is a residential school for children orphaned or otherwise rendered vulnerable by AIDS in rural western Kenya. 430 children learn and grow at the school, with over 250 living on-site.

The school focuses on empowering children through a sustainable living model. They grow food on the premises for and with the children. They dream to be a model eco-school with sustainable, off-grid systems that support both their own safety, security, and self-sufficiency as well as the health of the planet.

Sat Nam Foundation has identified Nambale Magnet School as a project that will benefit immensely from additional support. They have great infrastructure, though their day-to-day costs are preventing them from helping more children. We are focusing on sponsoring sustainable systems (i.e. solar power) that will support Nambale in their journey towards self-sustainability. Your participation in this Seva Retreat supports this goal.

TRAVEL:

Volunteers will fly into to Nairobi where they will need to stay at least one night. You should plan and book your accommodation in Nairobi ahead of time. Upon registration, we will give you a list of recommendations for accommodation in Nairobi. If you would like to spend a little time exploring the capital, Nairobi National Park is within the city, as well as an elephant orphanage, Giraffe center and more.

Volunteers will then catch the morning flight from Nairobi Airport (Jomo Kenyatta Airport) to Kisumu International Airport on Sunday, September 8th.

From Kisumu, a vehicle will be arranged to transport all the volunteers to Nambale Magnet School in the rural town of Nambale, two hours drive away.

On the last day of the retreat, September 14th, we will enjoy lunch together at the school and then travel to the Kisumu Airport for onward travel. Volunteers should book an outbound flight from Kisumu on the evening of September 14th.

Volunteers are responsible for the cost of all of their own air travel as well as any overnight stays outside of the school. Travel by car from Kisumu Airport to Nambale Magnet School will be paid for and arranged as part of the retreat.
