Inspired by the Standing Rock Movement, Tina Malia and Davidica Little Spotted Horse created a project to bring healthy, fresh, affordable, locally grown food to communities of the First Nations People. The first step is creating the ‘KEYA Natural Market’ in the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, where the community currently has access to one grocery store within a 120-mile radius. The lack of healthy food in the reservation is wreaking havoc among the people; currently the rate of diabetes and tuberculosis is 800% higher than the U.S. national average, while death due to heart disease is twice the national average and the rate of cervical cancer is 500% higher than the national average.

The KEYA Natural Market will be built using natural material and local labor. The market will feature a grocery and medicinal herb store with local products as well as a community gathering space where art, music, culture, and educational classes will be shared. The movement begins now, with your involvement and generous donations!  Sat Nam Foundation believes bringing healthy, local food to the Reservations is the first step towards sovereignty for the First Nations people.
